The first-ever Toastmasters club dedicated to address Senior American matters, Golden Seniors on the Move #1706858, conducted its Charter Celebration on May 15, 2011 at Tyrol Plaza Senior Apartments in Anaheim. Dignitaries from Founder’s District Toastmasters and the community, as well as the charter members, other diverse seniors, and youths from ages 2 to 88 years old laughed, shared, and enjoyed international food, beverages, stories, and entertainment.

Research has shown that more and more seniors are adversely affected by the current economic crises and that many are intimidated and afraid to speak up and find out what to do about their concerns: finances, depression, nutrition, health, illness, and what’s going on with technology and the economy. They often get depressed and feel “out of touch” with current happenings. Further, research has shown that only 1 in 5 cases of elder abuse is reported and that many seniors are being victims of identity theft, crime, financial and emotional abuse, and abandonment.
