Learning Labs

Founder's District Learning Labs

The Learning Labs are mini training sessions for new Toastmasters, club officers, or any Toastmasters member to discover and get the most out of your Toastmasters membership. Our sessions are small groups of no more than 20 people, allowing for more interaction and personal attention. All sessions are free but space is limited. Priority seating is given to attendees that RSVP.

Michael Osur, DTM, of Highland, California, is the deputy director at the Department of Public Health in Riverside County, California, where he has worked since 1994. Osur leads the Special Services division, which includes HIV/AIDS programs, nutrition services, tobacco control, epidemiology, public health nursing, injury prevention services and healthy communities initiative. He oversees a staff of more than 300 with a combined budget of over $35 million.

Osur earned an MBA from the University of Phoenix, Arizona. He has a certificate in quality improvement, and has participated in supervisor and management training programs, leadership excellence programs and the California Health Leadership Fellowship (2010-2011). He received the Southern California Public Health Association Leadership Award in 2015 for bringing Planning, Transportation and Health agencies together to improve health in the community.

A Toastmaster since 2008, Osur is a charter member of his home club, CHAT in Riverside. He has held a number of high-profile leadership positions within Toastmasters and has attained the Distinguished Toastmaster designation—the highest level of educational achievement in the organization.

He says, “As I became a leader in Toastmasters, I found my life’s mission to help others find their voice and become the leaders they are meant to be.”

As a member of the Toastmasters International Board of Directors, Osur is a “working ambassador” for the organization. He works with the Board to develop, support and modify the policies and procedures that guide Toastmasters International in fulfilling its mission.

Italian Lunch Buffet

Group Ballroom Dance Instruction - From 3pm to 5pm. Learn new steps or refresh your dancing skills, just get ready for the evening dance. Instructors, Jerswin and Anne Poloyapoy, from LonDance show you how it's done.

The International Speech Contest brings together the top 10 speakers in the district. The winner moves on to compete in the semi-finals or the World Champion of Public Speaking competition held in Vancouver this year.

Formal Dinner - Your choice of Stuffed Chicken Roulade, or Blackened Red Snapper. For your dining entertainment we present vocalist, Melissa Wong, and guitarist, Mike O'Neil. A cash bar will also be available.

After dinner, we recognize and honor the past district governors of Founder's District and it's surrounding distict who have helped to make Founder's District special for us. Thank you to all of our Past District Governors and Directors. Then enjoy a short music and visual presentation of our members throughout the years who have also contributed to making Founder's Distict great! Thanks for the memories!

Social Media Contest

Does your club use social media? If so, your club could win in the social media contest. Contestants should send their entry packet to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by October 1 in the fall or March 15 in the spring. The winning club will win a prize valued at $100 and second prize valued at $50. Winners will be announced at the Founder's District Conference.

Contest packets should include the following:

  • A document with your social media channels (including addresses).
  • Reports from your Facebook page or other social media channels that shows your activity (one report for each channel).
  • A two to three page document that explains why your club’s social media strategy is the best.
  • If you have any videos, you should include the file or the links to the videos.
