Founders District is creating a Legacy of Excellence, and you can become a part of that Legacy:  Area Governor Positions are now available

“It was a year I’ll always treasure.”

“It was my best year in Toastmasters.”

“It’s the most important role in District leadership.”

“I wouldn't have traded it for anything.”

These are commonly heard reflections about the Area Governor position. Founder’s District is seeking enthusiastic members interested in experiencing the role of Area Governor for the 2011-2012 year.  This leadership position serves as the liaison between the clubs and the District. Check out the details of the position (link to http://www.toastmasters.org/AreaGovJob.aspx) and the qualifications (link to http://www.toastmasters.org/NonNavigableDocs/QualificationsChecklist.aspx).

Serving as an area governor should be regarded as a special honor and privilege; a serious challenge and an opportunity for service to the district and the community.  A governorship is a proving ground for future leadership, not only in Toastmasters, but in countless ways for years to come.

Founder’s District Toastmasters Lend Their Skills at NMA Contest

Founder’s District Community Judging Chair

Since 1988, the National Management Association (NMA) headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, has sponsored a 4-level speech contest for high school students. The contest involves young men and women in grades nine through twelve. They research, write, and then deliver a speech based upon their interpretation of a variety of Leadership topics. Contestants are judged on content, delivery, and language.

At the NMA West Leadership Development Conference (LD) held in Anaheim April 28-30, NMA conducted the third-level contest. The winner of the event was Nicholas Bayuk, sponsored by the Columbia Basin Council, who received a cash prize of $1000. Laureen Bousmail, sponsored by the Boeing Aerospace Leadership Chapter (BALC) and the Southern California Area Council (SCAC), placed second and received $500. Nicholas and Laureen will represent the West at the NMA annual conference in St. Louis in September, where the four finalists compete for even higher cash prizes.

NMA always encourages Toastmasters to help judge these contests. At this year’s event in Anaheim, members of the Founder’s District Judges Bureau were pleased and proud to judge this contest. The Founder’s Disrtrict volunteers were Nigel Blackwell, ACB, Carolynn Bramlett, DTM, Norm Cook, DTM, PDG, Dr. Diana Dee, DTM, Richard Elliott, DTM, Lauren Kelly, DTM, PID, Dr. Frances Stein, DTM, and Norman Stein, DTM.
